27 representatives of Roman Catholic parish of St. Joseph (Minsk, BELARUS) have started an indefinite fasting for return of the buildings of the Bernardine monasteries and the church.

The BelaPAN has been informed about that by a member of the religious community Ivona Matsukevich. As said by her, since August 30 people of different ages, trades and education are taking part in the protest aimed at return of the buildings. Among them are 17-year-old students.

Blow-up church looks to lure beachgoers

ROME (Reuters) - Catholic nuns and priests in Italy are following their flocks to the beach this summer, establishing an inflatable church and a beach-convent in the sands to lure sunbathers.

Hi, I'm utterly new to this community and have a question. I'm looking for somewhere that I can access prompts for my prayer journal. I want to keep one, but have trouble focusing on what to write about. I know there are places that have secular prompts, but I'd like to find one that has sacred ones. Can anyone help?

I'd like to ask everyone to pray for us and for our city. I live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which - as you may know - has been pretty much wiped out by the recent flooding. No, the buildings still stand, but our downtown is a wreck and it will be a long time before everything is back to normal. We've pulled together and I am so amazed by this city (I lived elsewhere in the Flood of 93 and did not see this kind of compassion and strength). Two of our Catholic churches, including the oldest Czech church in the area, were damaged in the flood. I'd like to ask for prayers as we clean up and that God will be seen in both the destruction and in our strength and community spirit. Thanks!

Catholic League [Jan. 24th, 2008|05:53 pm]

I had a quick question: Does anyone know if the Catholic Church gives any sort of support for the Catholic League?

I ask only because I have been on the League's website quite a few times, and I have found that the president, William Donohue clearly has issues with almost everything in today's culture. I have found that he seems to make quite some outrageous remarks, even hateful.

He called the priest sex abuse scandal a homosexual scandal, not a pedophilia scandal. (C'mon) And, he has criticized shows, people, etc that I like, ex: The show South Park, comedienne Kathy Griffin, the film "Dogma," even the song "One of Us" by Joan Osborne.

I mean, yes, sometimes I feel that there is some prejudice against Catholics, but I feel that's out of misinformation and ignorance. But I feel with this guy raging about this and that, people will have a more negative opinion of Catholics and the Church in general.

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate prayers for my great-uncle Bill. Today is the one year anniversary of his death. Me and my family attended his anniversary Mass. I would also appreciate prayers for his family. We all still miss Bill.

Thank you so much!

For New England Catholics and anyone else... [Jul. 15th, 2007|07:43 pm]

The Archdiocese of Boston is facing a shortage of priests. Am I surprised? Not too much.

I am wondering if they know why. And maybe they do know, they just don't want to admit it. Personally, I think it's because people still haven't gotten over the sex abuse scandal and the whole idea of a vow of chastity.

Any thoughts?

Confused! [May. 12th, 2007|10:39 pm]

[Current Mood |confusedconfused]

So I was on a Catholic news website, and an article was posted. It was about comments made by Janis Pujats, head of the Catholic Church in Latvia. He described homosexuality as an”absolute depravity in sexual behavior” and a “unnatural form of prostitution.”

I swear that as Catholics we believe that if someone is gay that's not sinful. It's just the actions, and I know that's the same rule with everyone, regardless of sexual orientation.

Honestly, I find his remarks hateful and ignorant. Am I wrong to think this? I just think his comments sound like bigotry, plain and simple.
